Huntsville
Fairhope Cycling Project worked with Clint Johns and the city of Huntsville, Alabama on the first funds distributed from the "I Share the Road" license plate.
"This was an intersection that two bike routes intersected at. The East and West approach which is Bradford Drive is a heavy route that gets people from downtown to our Research Park area and further west to ride. The city put in some brand new technology at this intersection that detects bicycles differently than cars. Once the traffic controller sees a bike has arrived it will then implement special timings to allow safer passage of the cyclist through the intersection. These signs play a vital role in the operation of the traffic signal since we need cyclist to be in the lane to be detected. These “Bikes may use full lane” signs reaffirm to the cyclist and the driving public that bikes belong in the travel lane." Clint Johns
